The Esperanza Aztecs''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 41-20 defeat at the hands of El Modena. Esperanza was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-7.
Despite the loss, Esperanza still got an impressive performance from Aaron Forsgren, who rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Forsgren was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards.
Leading El Modena to victory were Brodie Hitchens and Xzavior Guess. Hitchens rushed for 75 yards and three touchdowns, while Guess threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns while completing 82.1% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Deron Taylor, who picked up 62 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Esperanza now has a losing record at 4-5. As for El Modena, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Esperanza will be playing in front of their home fans against Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Canyon is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for El Modena, they will head out on the road to face off against El Dorado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. El Dorado is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
