Monterey has gone a perfect 3-0 against Palma recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Toreadors will host the Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. Monterey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Monterey needed a bit of extra time to put away Watsonville. They skirted past the Wildcatz 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Toreadors in their matchups with the Wildcatz: they've now won eight in a row.
Nicole Seal spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Denae Lee was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Anaiyah Brown, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Palma hadn't done well against Salinas recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Thursday. The Chieftains walked away with a 5-1 win over the Cowboys.
Palma also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kiersten Jara gave up a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Jara.
At the plate, Palma's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Keilani Pato-Guardado, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Monterey's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Palma, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.
Monterey got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Palma by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Toreadors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chieftains turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
