Baseball Recap: Salmon Gets the Win

Salmon not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Idaho City Wildcats a 10-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Savages also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Dane Piippo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Salmon let Clayton Allen and Reuel McCallum run wild. Allen went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while McCallum scored two runs and stole five bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs McCallum has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Osborne, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.

Salmon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Idaho City only posted an OBP of .316.

Salmon now has a winning record of 1-0-1. As for Idaho City, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Salmon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 17-4 victory against Soda Springs on the 22nd. As for Idaho City, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against Challis on the 22nd.
