Malvern had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-11 to make it four. They came up short against the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints, falling 24-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 26-6 on Monday.
Malvern saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Wood, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double. Another was Emmerson Yerrick, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
As for Tuscarawas Central Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by eight runs or more this season.
On Tuscarawas Central Catholic's side, Tessa Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Williams has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miya Olson, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Lynsie Tienarend was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Malvern and Tuscarawas Central Catholic could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Hornets will take on Garaway at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (667 vs. 53). Meanwhile, Tuscarawas Central Catholic (ranked 476th) will meet Tuscarawas Valley (ranked 124th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
