St. Dominic and Sacopee Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Saints will welcome the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Dominic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
St. Dominic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Buckfield, who was ranked 16th at the time (St. Dominic was ranked 15th). The Saints lost 10-0 to the Bucks on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the Bucks: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sacopee Valley). They blew past Old Orchard Beach 15-1 on Thursday. The Hawks not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 24, 2024 (when they won 15-0).
Charlotte Cyr and Aly Eastman were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Cyr tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Eastman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Cyr went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Eastman went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Eastman a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sacopee Valley got a massive performance out of Adaline Wright, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Bridget Landry, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Sacopee Valley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for St. Dominic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Sacopee Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Dominic has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Sacopee Valley, though, as they've been averaging 12.4 hits. Given St. Dominic's sizable advantage in that area, the Hawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
St. Dominic took their win against Sacopee Valley when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 15-1 score. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
