The Union City Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Concord 74-39. While losing is never fun, Union City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 622nd, while Concord is ranked 235th).
When it comes to explaining why Union City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Adalynn Rumsey. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Rumsey scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Calli Wilkinson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Leading Concord to victory were Cieara Barrett and Bradie Lehman. Barrett scored 19 points along with eight assists and five rebounds, while Lehman scored 24 points along with nine rebounds. Barrett is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Stevens, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Union City's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Concord, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union City will take on Pennfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pennfield is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Concord, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Jackson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
