Basketball Recap: Lake Pointe Academy Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Lake Pointe Academy's game on Thursday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against the UR Academy Lions by a score of 57-47. Given the Mariners' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 68th in South Carolina, while the Lions are ranked 477th in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lake Pointe Academy had a senior duo take command as Keagan Hiser posted 18 points and James Jacobs scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hiser has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josh Morgan, who had eight points.

UR Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gabriel Thompson, who went 10 of 18 on his way to 24 points and five rebounds, and Jordan Miller, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 boards. Thompson's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Lake Pointe Academy pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for UR Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Lake Pointe Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Richard Winn Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Richard Winn Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season. As for UR Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Comenius at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. UR Academy is facing Comenius at the right time seeing as Comenius is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
