Baseball Game Preview: Cherryville Ironmen vs. Lincolnton Wolves

The Cherryville Ironmen will square off against the Lincolnton Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cherryville has four straight victories, Lincolnton has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Cherryville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Tuesday. The Ironmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Brock Bumgardner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Talon Dalton, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Bryson Withers was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Cherryville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Lincolnton lost 13-1 to Bunker Hill on Tuesday.

Cherryville's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Lincolnton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Cherryville took their win against Lincolnton when the teams last played back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 12-0. Will Cherryville repeat their success, or does Lincolnton has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
