Foothill hasn't had much luck against Basic recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Falcons will host the Wolves at 3:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Foothill's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Eldorado with a sharp 11-0 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Liam Wells looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
On the hitting side, Foothill let Calob Piehler and Nolan Gifford run wild. Piehler went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Gifford got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Piehler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Gottschall, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Basic faced Boulder City in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wolves had just enough and edged out the Eagles 12-11. The victory was familiar territory for the Wolves, who have now won three games in a row.
Basic also got a great performance from Jason Lizotte as he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Lizotte has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Matthew Kelley was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Andruw Giles, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Basic lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Boulder City didn't launched any.
Foothill's win bumped their record up to 18-11. As for Basic, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.
