The Canutillo Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Burges Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. Canutillo was the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over Andress. With that win, Canutillo brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Izzy Salazar and Abby Lujan did most of the damage at the plate: Salazar went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Lujan went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Khloe Borjas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Canutillo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Burges, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They blew past Jefferson 13-1 on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Annaliese Avina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Burges got a massive performance out of Yoselin Chavira, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Chavira has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Valeria Sanchez, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
Burges' win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 12-10. As for Canutillo, their record is now 5-18.
Canutillo got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Burges by a conclusive 13-7 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
