The Surry Central Golden Eagles will take on the Glenn Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Surry Central challenged Wilkes Central on Tuesday. Surry Central walked away with a 12-8 win over Wilkes Central.
Jackson Wilmoth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Eric Branch was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Four bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ty Lloyd, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Surry Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glenn). They came out on top against Cornerstone Charter by a score of 10-5 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
The team relied heavily on Logan Stump, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Manley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Glenn's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Surry Central, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Surry Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Glenn struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
