South Effingham has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Camden County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, South Effingham earned a 57-47 win over Johnson. The win was just what South Effingham needed coming off of a 69-46 defeat in their prior game.
South Effingham's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyra Guyton, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Guyton scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailyn Chapman, who scored 17 points along with five assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Camden County put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 71-21 victory over First Coast on the road. Considering Camden County has won six contests by more than 21 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Akeelah Bryan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for she. Another player making a difference was Mahliya Reeder, who scored 12 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
South Effingham's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-6. As for Camden County, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: South Effingham have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Camden County, though, as they've been averaging only 32.2 rebounds per game. Given South Effingham's sizeable advantage in that area, Camden County will need to find a way to close that gap.
South Effingham was taken down by Camden County 72-41 when the teams last played two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Camden County's Taylor Rietveld, who dropped a triple-double on 30 points, 15 rebounds, and ten steals. Now that South Effingham knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
