The Rio Mesa Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Cypress Centurions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rio Mesa is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
Rio Mesa put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 48-6 victory over Dos Pueblos. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-0.
JJ Bittner had a dynamite game for Rio Mesa, rushing for 141 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 238 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt. Bittner was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 58 yards. Noah Ramos also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Cypress unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 49-17 loss at the hands of Tustin. Cypress was down 35-10 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Rio Mesa's win bumped their season record to 7-3 while Cypress' loss dropped theirs to 6-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Rio Mesa has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cypress struggles in that department as they've been averaging 155.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
