Softball Recap: Aztec Snags 11th Victory in Last 12 Games

Aztec hadn't done well against Gallup recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bengals a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Reagan Bradshaw was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Kayci Phillips was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Bradshaw wasn't the only one making solid contact: Aztec kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in eight consecutive games.

Aztec is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.1 runs on average over those games. As for Gallup, with the defeat, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aztec will host Shiprock at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chieftains have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.33 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gallup, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Bloomfield at 6:00 p.m. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.37 runs per game on average), something the Bengals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
