Softball Recap: Ramona Has No Trouble Against Valley Center

Ramona made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Valley Center, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 16-2 victory on Wednesday. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered an 8-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Braelyn Bolen made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Ramona let Evie Brown and Lilia Ramos run wild. Brown scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Ramos scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Brown has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Serenity Hayes, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Ramona kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.6.

Ramona has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-11-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Center, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Ramona will head out to challenge Mt. Carmel at 4:00 p.m. on the 25th. As for Valley Center, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Tri-City Christian at 3:30 p.m. on the 28th.
