Naples is a perfect 10-0 against Lely since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Naples has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Aubrey Rogers hit Naples with a four-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Golden Eagles came up short against the Patriots, falling 13-5. The Golden Eagles have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Mackenzie Leiti made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lely). Everything went their way against Gateway Charter on Monday as they made off with a 23-8 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their one-run performance the game before.
Star Orosco made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, Brooke Bledsoe was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Mueller, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Lely was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Lely has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-14 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Naples, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Everything went Naples' way against Lely when the teams last played back in February, as Naples made off with an 18-8 victory. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
