Overhills is 9-1 against Triton since November of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Overhills Jaguars will head out on the road to square off against the Triton Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Overhills unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to Westover. While losing is never fun, Overhills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Westover is ranked 44th).
Despite the defeat, Overhills got a solid performance out of Deshaun Barton, who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 1 assist. Chauncy Kelly was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Triton strolled past Pine Forest with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 69-51. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Triton.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Triton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Romello Pegues, who scored 22 points. Pegues has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of B. J. Surles, who scored ten points along with six assists and four steals.
Overhills' loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Triton, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Tuesday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Barton and Pegues. Barton has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 12.6 points, 1.8 steals, and 3 assists. For his part, Pegues has averaged 16.8 points and 1 steals.
Overhills strolled past Triton when the teams last played back in January by a score of 59-44. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Pegues, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Overhills still be able to contain Pegues? There's only one way to find out.
