Baseball Recap: Thomasville Wins Going Away Against Lexington

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against East Davidson, Thomasville was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Lexington Yellowjackets. Considering the Bulldogs have won seven matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Leonel Guzman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Thomasville's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't). Guzman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Travail Barnes and Elijah McNeair did most of the damage at the plate: Barnes went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles, while McNeair got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Thomasville is 8-1 when Barnes posts two or more runs, but 2-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mkyel Duncan, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Thomasville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Thomasville's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Lexington, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

Coming up, Thomasville will venture away from home to take on East Wilkes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lexington will be paying especially close attention to the Bulldogs' game: after the Bulldogs face off against the Cardinals, they'll take on Lexington again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
