Woodgrove is 9-1 against Riverside since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wolverines will host the Ram at 6:30 p.m. Woodgrove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Friday just wasn't the day for Woodgrove's offense. They fell just short of Briar Woods by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Wolverines were not able to get on the board.
Abby Miller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Woodgrove saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Harper, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple was Harper's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Riverside waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Patriots. The Ram might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.
Kaylee Kadans looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ashley Bui, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Lauren Enright was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Riverside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Riverside's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Woodgrove, their loss ended a 14-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-2.
Both Woodgrove and Riverside just can't seem to miss. The Wolverines have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Riverside struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodgrove was able to grind out a solid win over Riverside when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Ram have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
