Preston Wolfe made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Drake Feece was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Trey Delp also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, South Bend Saint Joseph strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand New Prairie an 11-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Huskies have won by exactly 11 runs.
Jay Nuber tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Brody Zielinski was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Langager, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
South Bend Saint Joseph was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
South Bend Saint Joseph's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Plymouth, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Plymouth might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from South Bend Saint Joseph when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Pilgrims/Rockies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
