The Montgomery Red Raiders will head out to challenge the Columbia Montour Vo-Tech Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Montgomery is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Montgomery's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when South Williamsport hitters got past them. The Red Raiders lost 12-2 to the Mountaineers on Monday. The contest marked the Red Raiders' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Montgomery saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Bennett is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Columbia Montour Vo-Tech made sure to put some runs up on the board against Weatherly on Monday. The Rams put the hurt on Weatherly with a sharp 17-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Rams' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Columbia Montour Vo-Tech let Myles Koser and Axton Koser run wild. Myles scored four runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4, while Axton went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Axton a new career-high. Beau Rohm was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
Columbia Montour Vo-Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weatherly only posted an OBP of .250.
Having lost for the first time this season, Montgomery fell to 4-1. As for Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Montgomery has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Columbia Montour Vo-Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Montgomery was able to grind out a solid victory over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
