The Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs will challenge the Normal West Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mahomet-Seymour is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Mahomet-Seymour made easy work of Rantoul and carried off a 14-8 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.
Ainsley Whitaker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Maddie Logsdon was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madi White, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Mahomet-Seymour was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Normal West faced off against Plainfield North last Tuesday. The Wildcats walked away with an 8-3 win over the Tigers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Normal West let Rylee Hollings and Erika Durham run wild. Hollings went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Durham went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and three runs. Those RBI were Hollings' first of the season. Olivia Kobel was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Normal West's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Mahomet-Seymour, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Normal West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mahomet-Seymour hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326.
