The Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Lions will face off against the Chardon Hilltoppers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 2-1. The win was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won three games in a row.
Alex Mould spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Becca Wooke, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Lexi Simon, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chardon). Everything went their way against Mayfield on Monday as they made off with a 19-4 victory. The Hilltoppers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 8, 2024 (when they won 23-1).
Sierra Taylor was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Emma Anderson was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Chardon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Chardon's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Chardon struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
