Baseball Recap: Plano Sets Scoring Season-High Against Gardner-South Wilmington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plano). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers a 15-0 shutout on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Jason Phillips was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Plano's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 6-18 when he doesn't). Quentin Santoria was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Plano kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The victory (which was Plano's third in a row) raised their record to 10-18. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Gardner-South Wilmington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Plano will venture away from home to face off against Yorkville Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Gardner-South Wilmington, they will host Beecher at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
