Basketball Game Preview: Centennial Patriots vs. Eagle Mustangs

Centennial is 1-9 against Eagle since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Centennial Patriots will welcome the Eagle Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Centennial knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matches -- so hopefully Eagle likes a good challenge.

Eagle better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Centennial really get things going. Centennial blew past Borah 71-42 on Tuesday. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 28 points or more this season.

Gabe Eddins was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points and three steals. His evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Knudson, who posted 12 points.

Centennial was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Eagle faced Owyhee in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Eagle came up short against Owyhee, falling 58-36. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Storm recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Centennial's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.2 points. As for Eagle, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.

Centennial didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Eagle in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 56-51 victory. Does Centennial have another victory up their sleeve, or will Eagle turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
