Softball Recap: Rochester Has No Trouble Against Northfield

Rochester had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Northfield on Monday. The Zebras blew past the Norsemen 17-1. The Zebras have beaten the Norsemen the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Norsemen has come to flipping the script.

Bria Rensberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Aubrey Miller was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Wilson, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Rochester was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Rochester pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Northfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rochester will square off against Manchester at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Squires will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Zebras surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northfield, they will face off against Peru at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Norsemen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
