Softball Recap: Tempe Wins Going Away Against Cortez

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Tempe and Cortez have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Buffaloes blew past the Colts 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Hilana Valencia was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Celeste Alvarez was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Tempe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in nine consecutive contests.

Tempe's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Cortez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.

Tempe didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-1 defeat against Greenway on the 3rd. As for Cortez, they have also already played their next matchup, a 12-10 win against Washington on the 4th.
