Softball Recap: Kinder Has No Trouble Against Iowa

Kinder barely beat Iowa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Kinder put the hurt on Iowa with a sharp 8-2 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for Kinder, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Brianna Fontenot made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Aubrey May was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Samantha Hayes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Kinder was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Iowa only posted a batting average of .233.

Kinder's victory bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Iowa, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-10.

Coming up, Kinder will square off against Anacoco at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Iowa, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against DeQuincy at 5:00 p.m. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
