Baseball Recap: Westmont Has No Trouble Against Newark

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Westmont and Newark meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Sentinels blew past the Norsemen 12-1. The Sentinels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Briggs Templeton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Ricky Yenkin, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Westmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newark only posted an OBP of .333.

Westmont's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Newark, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westmont will host Cristo Rey Jesuit at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Newark, they will be playing at home against Dwight at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
