The Show Low Cougars won the last time they faced the Payson Longhorns, and things went their way on Monday too. Show Low enjoyed a cozy 41-26 win over Payson. Given Show Low's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Payson is ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aubrie Wilson was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Raquel Wilson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lizzy White, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Clara Whaley, who scored eight points.
Show Low's win bumped their record up to 25-2. As for Payson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Show Low won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Blue Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Show Low is coming into the contest with seven straight wins at home, meaning Blue Ridge will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. Payson will take on Winslow at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Winslow focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday.
