The Westover Patriots were the 50-40 winner over the Valdosta Wildcats when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Westover fell to Valdosta 45-41. While losing is never fun, Westover can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while Valdosta is ranked 29th).
Westover's lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anthony Milton, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Milton is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Holmes, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Valdosta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Israel Jenrette led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds. Jenrette is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Eric Love was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Westover bumped their record down to 2-3 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Valdosta, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westover will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on December 9th. As for Valdosta, they will challenge St. Anne-Pacelli at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully St. Anne-Pacelli focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.
