The Del Norte Warriors had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They slipped by St. Bernard's 18-17. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Del Norte also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Despite the loss, St. Bernard's still got an impressive performance from Wyatt Simoni, who rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Simoni is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
Del Norte's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Eureka and 0-8 McKinleyville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 29.2% over those games). As for St. Bernard's, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.
Del Norte will head out on the road to face off against Fortuna at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Bernard's, they will be playing at home against Eureka at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Eureka is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
