Wharton is 7-2 against Freedom since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Wharton Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Freedom Patriots at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Wharton is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Freedom in Florida (Wharton is ranked 102nd, while Freedom is ranked 516th).
Last Friday, Wharton got themselves on the board against Bloomingdale, but Bloomingdale never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bulls 55-0 on the road.
Wharton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terek Mccant, who rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Malaqhi Jones, who picked up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Wharton's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Booker Pickett jr and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Freedom, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They took a serious blow against Armwood two weeks ago, falling 60-0. Freedom was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Wharton's win bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Freedom, their defeat was their 18th straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8.
Everything came up roses for Wharton against Freedom when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 76-6 victory. Does Wharton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Freedom turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
