Basketball Recap: Heights Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jazmyne Gilbert and Mira Johnson

If Heights was feeling good fresh off their 56-25 takedown of Houston Math Science & Tech last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Heights Bulldogs took a 50-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westside Wolves on Saturday. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Heights' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mira Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, and Jazmyne Gilbert, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Gilbert has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last eight times she's played.

Westside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Garlynn Grant out in front who posted 28 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Grant continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Krysten Carter was another key player, putting up eight points and five steals.

Heights' loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Westside, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-13 record this season.

Heights didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 46-22 win against Wisdom on the 13th. Westside has also already played their next game, a 45-35 victory against Lamar on the 14th.
