After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Corinth, Oxford was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They never let the Washington Generals get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Josh Scruggs looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Oxford's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 10-11 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Robert Upchurch was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Oxford's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Washington, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 24-6.
Looking ahead, Oxford will welcome Pontotoc at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Washington does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
