The Atholton Raiders waltzed into their matchup Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They pulled ahead with a 55-54 photo finish over Phoenixville.
It was another big night for Amir Shaheed, who scored 18 points along with eight assists. That's the first time this season that he posted eight or more assists. Juan Macatangay was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
The win got Atholton back to even at 4-4. As for Phoenixville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atholton and Hammond will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hammond knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Atholton likes a good challenge. Phoenixville is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Upper Merion Area at 6:45 p.m. on January 2nd. Upper Merion Area will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 431st, while Phoenixville is ranked 134th).
