The Bloomfield Cardinals will challenge the Princeton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bloomfield proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by six) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Living Water Homeschool.
Lila Koontz was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Koontz was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Lafree, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Princeton). They walked away with a 20-16 win over Forest Park on Thursday. The Tigers have beaten the Rangers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rangers has come to flipping the script.
Kamryn Elliott was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Whitehead, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Princeton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Bloomfield pushed their record up to 14-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Princeton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-15.
