The Winter Park Wildcats only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 23-point they dealt the Mount Dora Hurricanes on Thursday. Winter Park was the clear victor by a 53-30 margin over Mount Dora. Given Winter Park's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Mount Dora is ranked 483rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Winter Park found their leader in underclassman Calista Rand, who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Rand scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Childs, who scored ten points.
Winter Park is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Mount Dora, they bumped their record down to 3-8 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winter Park won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Evans at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Mount Dora, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Umatilla at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Umatilla will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
