The Newton-Conover Red Devils entered their tilt with the Bunker Hill Bears with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Newton-Conover strolled past Bunker Hill with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 70-52. Given Newton-Conover's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Bunker Hill is ranked 458th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Javier Lineberger was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Cannon, who scored 22 points along with three steals.
Newton-Conover has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Bunker Hill, they bumped their record down to 3-12 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Newton-Conover will take on Maiden at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bunker Hill, they will be playing at home against Bandys at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bandys and Bunker Hill are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
