The Mount St. Charles Academy Mounties will head out on the road to challenge the Mt. Hope Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mount St. Charles Academy has four straight victories, Mt. Hope has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
In what's become a running theme this season, Mount St. Charles Academy gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mt. Pleasant 62-18 at home. Given Mount St. Charles Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Mt. Pleasant is ranked 49th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mount St. Charles Academy relied on the efforts of Anna Dziun, who scored seven points along with seven steals and five assists, and Addison Johnson, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Stojanowski, who scored six points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Mt. Hope, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-37 loss to East Greenwich on Tuesday.
Mount St. Charles Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Mt. Hope, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
Mount St. Charles Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Mt. Hope when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 55-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount St. Charles Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
