Mount Union has gone a perfect 3-0 against Northern Bedford County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Trojans will host the Panthers at 4:30 p.m.
West Branch hit Mount Union with a five-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell 10-7 to the Warriors. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Payton Williams was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Reagan Yocum was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Maddie Dimoff, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northern Bedford County). They put the hurt on Williamsburg with a sharp 36-14 win on Monday. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Northern Bedford County got a massive performance out of Kaylee Ebersole, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four runs gave Ebersole a new career-high. Josie Robinette was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one double.
Northern Bedford County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win (which was Northern Bedford County's third in a row) raised their record to 6-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Mount Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mount Union has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northern Bedford County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mount Union came out on top in a nail-biter against Northern Bedford County when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
