Johnson is 8-2 against LEE since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Johnson Jaguars will host the LEE Volunteers at 12:30 p.m. Johnson is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Last Wednesday, Johnson humbled Madison with a 57-19 victory. With that win, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Johnson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mackenzie Donald out in front who went 6 of 10 on her way to 14 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Mcfarlin, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 12 points and three steals.
Johnson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, LEE came up short against Reagan on Wednesday and fell 60-51.
Johnson will have to contain Rosanelly Pastrano as she made an impact in LEE's last game. She posted 24 points and four steals. Pastrano's evening made it 21 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nena Alvarado, who had nine points and five rebounds.
Johnson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.9 points per game. As for LEE, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-8 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Johnson has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like LEE struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Johnson couldn't quite finish off LEE in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 57-55. Thankfully for Johnson, Debi Hernandez (who put up 19 points and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
