The Alexandria Trojans came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Avoyelles Charter with a 53-49 win. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 3 on the offensive boards, as Alexandria did.
Leading Alexandria to victory were Ashton Bobb and Markel Gaines. Bobb scored 15 points along with two steals, while Gaines scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Bobb scored 15 or more points. A'myrion Mingo was another key contributor, scoring two points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Avoyelles Charter had strong showings from Jalen Brown, who scored 20 points along with two steals, and Armonii Benjamin, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That was a full 40.8% of Avoyelles Charter's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Karlon Williams, who scored eight points.
Alexandria has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Avoyelles Charter, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-8.
Alexandria will head out on the road to square off against Pineville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Avoyelles Charter won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Alexandria Country Day at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Alexandria Country Day comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
