Mount St. Mary Academy had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-6 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Nichols Vikings by a score of 7-6. If the Thunder were looking for revenge after losing 4-3 to the Vikings when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Isabella Kilonsky was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Kilonsky was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Molly Reynolds was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
As for Nichols, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch.
On Nichols' side, Reyes Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. Rodriguez has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brynn Bacak and Gabriella Seneca did most of the damage at the plate: Bacak went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Seneca went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Seneca a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Chebat, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
While Mount St. Mary Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
