This season hasn't been kind to the Alexander Spartans, who are still winless after their 16th match. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 51-50 to River Valley. If Alexander hoped to take revenge for the 51-45 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Braden Bennett was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds for River Valley. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bennett has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gary Truance, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Alexander's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16. As for River Valley, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11.
Alexander will take on Vinton County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vinton County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 games -- so hopefully Alexander likes a good challenge. As for River Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against Nelsonville-York at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nelsonville-York is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
