Softball Recap: Chester Victorious

It's playoff time, and Chester had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Sparta Bulldogs by a score of 9-4 on Wednesday. This was a revenge game for the Yellowjackets: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in April, they had to take a 7-3 defeat.

Lexie Mott was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chester let Elaina Lutman and Avery Hasemeyer run wild. Lutman went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases and three runs, while Hasemeyer went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Lutman has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlie Caby, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

Chester's win bumped their record up to 19-9. As for Sparta, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season.

Chester does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sparta, they will face off against Valmeyer at 4:30 p.m. on the 29th. The Bulldogs are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
