The Hanover-Horton Comets will face off against the Michigan Center Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Michigan Center will be up against a hot Hanover-Horton squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Comets' pitcher stepped up to hand Addison a 21-0 shutout on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 21, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Alexyn DuBois made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Smith, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those home runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Amanda Ley, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Hanover-Horton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .710. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Michigan Center ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Napoleon, sneaking past 10-9. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cardinals.
Hanover-Horton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Michigan Center, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Hanover-Horton might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from Michigan Center when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Will the Comets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
