The Pittsfield Generals will head out to take on the Hampshire Regional Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Pittsfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Pittsfield's offense. They fell just short of Mount Anthony by a score of 2-0 on Saturday.
Pittsfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nevaeh Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Hampshire Regional made easy work of Minnechaug Regional on Sunday and carried off a 16-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won eight matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Ryanne Dubay1 spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Teagan Charles, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachael Hickox, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Hampshire Regional always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
The win made it two in a row for Hampshire Regional and bumps their season record up to 15-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Pittsfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pittsfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hampshire Regional struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pittsfield suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Hampshire Regional when the teams last played back in April. Can the Generals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
