The Clayton Comets came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 68-56 win over Southeast Raleigh. Given Clayton's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Southeast Raleigh is ranked 141st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clayton was led to victory by Andrew Grimes and Justice Mitchell . Grimes scored 22 points, while Mitchell dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Mitchell 's 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Henson , who scored nine points.
Clayton's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Southeast Raleigh, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Clayton will head out on the road to face off against Fuquay - Varina at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Southeast Raleigh, they will be playing at home against South Garner at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully South Garner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Friday.
