Central Kansas recap Oct. 23, 2012
Hillsboro extended the longest winning streak in Central Kansas this week by beating Marion, 40-21. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Halstead led the league in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Moundridge.
Tyler Proffitt threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns. He went 24-35 with three interceptions.
Zach Andersen was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 31 carries, he ran for 200 yards as Kingman fell to Ulysses. Teammate Braxton Bangert added to the ground attack by rushing for 73 yards.
Tyrell Thiessen made the biggest impact on defense this week as Hillsboro bested the Warriors. The 5-foot-11 senior forced one fumble and recorded two fumbles.
Ramos was the best wideout in Central Kansas this week as the Greenbacks lost to the Tigers. Ramos racked up six receptions for 136 yards. Skylar Dean helped Pratt's passing attack out by catching four balls for 92 yards.
Lance Sawyer's team's Proffitt and Shaq Thiessen have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Proffitt has thrown for 1698 yards this season, while Thiessen, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 26 catches for 672 yards. Riley Galyon from Sterling leads the league in rushing with 927 yards.
Galyon of the the Black Bears is only 73 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Dragons take on the Trojans. Halstead is in fourth place, while Hillsboro is in first place.
Sterling made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,412 from 10,946. The improvement was the result of 40-0 victory over Inman last week.
